Outline and Origin of Entourage
Created by Doug Ellin this American Comedy under the drama tag Vincent Chase as he makes his way from Queens, New York City while trying to become a star there. It is said that Mark Wahlberg’s early career is the inspiration behind this series which is now into the seventh season. The Hollywood lifestyle and male camaraderie are the issues touched upon in this series.
Entourage is a cynical view on the typical lifestyle led by Hollywood stars. This approach was used, as Mark had a violent past which would be unwise to publicize. Mark Wahlberg says that his assistant gave him the idea to film the antics of his friends since they were comical. The main actor of the show is shown in a lighter view as his real life actions being similar to Wahlberg would be a cause for concern.
Adrian Grenier who plays as Vincent Chase and his best friend Kevin Connolly acting as Eric Murphy are the main persons around which the story revolves. Johnny “Drama” Chase who is Vincent’s older brother as well as his personal chef and bodyguard is a D-List actor in Viking Quest during his early days. The guy nicknamed “Turtle” is Salvatore one of Vincent’s old friends from childhood who is Vincent’s driver and assistant. His character is based on Mark Wahlberg’s “gofer.” Jeremy Piven plays Vince’s agent and is a bitter sweet kind of guy who is cast after Ari Emanuel, Mark Wahlberg’s real-life agent. The regulars who have been on since the first season are Adrian Grenier, Kevin Dillon and Jerry Ferrara. There are also many recurring appearances by Debi Mazar who appeared as guest star Shauna and had limited appearances as she was pregnant, finally appearing for the last time in episode 42. Basically almost all of the characters are taken from Mark Wahlberg’s past.
Entourage’s creator Doug Ellin and Jeremy Piven playing the talent agent Ari in the show, justifies the success of Entourage since it is deals not with the hollow lives led by Hollywood actors, but the true bonding that happens between the outwardly famous actors who still value their friends and family ties and that this is the reason Entourage garners such attention and to further emphasize the natural bonding only actors who shared a past with New York were chosen.
Being a show that throws the spotlight on Hollywood it’s only natural that there are guest appearances by many stars in Hollywood and sports like LeBron James, Jimmy Kimmel, Gary Busey, Bob Saget, James Cameron, 50 Cent Tom Brady Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson.
The show has collected many awards from the Emmies to the Golden Globes. Having gained positive reviews from many quarters Mark is next turning to produce this as a movie but this plan will be carried out after the seventh season comes to an end. HBO is acting as the distributor this series and the show is aired across the world in places where HBO is shown after dubbing.
